My YKI Test Experience — Part 3: The Topics

Here, I list all the topics I had on my intermediate YKI test held on 30.8.2025.

This list may not be entirely accurate or complete, but I tried my best to remember and write down everything that was covered right after my test.

Reading comprehension

In this subtest, we were given 1h to read and answer questions about 8 articles of varying lengths.

An employee describing his experience doing night work
The effect of coffee on fatigue
Apartment sizes and sales
Bringing an animal across the border
Accident on a plane
Old people and access to healthcare
Instructions for maintaining a fire alarm
(The 8th and final article was too difficult for me to understand what the main topic was even about!)

Talk about a skill you want to develop (90s monologue)
Job interview (dialogue)
Talk to a friend who came over to help you while your leg is injured (dialogue)
Console a crying lost boy (20-30s)
Ask a neighbour to take care of something for you when you go on a trip (20-30s)
Persuade a friend to go pick up trash with you at a park (20-30s)
Complain about a hotel room (20-30s)
Give your opinion on one of the two topics (2 min. monologue): 1) Safety in Finland, 2) Borrowing money from friends or family

The writing subtest had 3 tasks to complete within 55 min.

Write a message to your friend and persuade them to go on a trip with you
Write an email and inquire about renting a venue for a large celebration
Share your opinion on an internet forum about one of two topics: 1) Do we need to always have our phones with us?, 2) Is the cost of living expensive in Finland?
